May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Did you know that since COVID, concerns about mental health and substance use have remained elevated (even three years after the onset of the pandemic)? 90% of U.S. adults believe that the country is facing a mental health crisis, according to a recent KFF/CNN survey. Death by suicide is on the rise again as of 2021, and 1 out of 5 U.S. adults experiences mental illness each year.
Yet there is hope. Many world-class nonprofit organizations are dedicated to helping us all manage our mental health. They offer opportunities to find peer support, provide mental health research, and help to create access to qualified providers. Classy took the liberty of compiling this helpful list of 15 mental health charities working hard to improve mental health for us all. If you’re supporting their work by volunteering, donating, or otherwise amplifying their efforts, please share those good deeds in Benefact4. Doing so allows you to make an even stronger impact by inspiring others to do the same, find volunteer opportunities, and post events.
Nonprofits organizing events to help support mental health education can list events in the app, find volunteers, and amplify their efforts. Advocating for better mental health and ending the stigma is a job for us all.
